No one had found the man’s body. The servant, his mother, and his brother were hanged for murder. But two years later…

The Campden Wonder is the name given to a strange and mysterious event that occurred in Chipping Campden, Gloucestershire, England, in the 17th century. It began one day in 1660.


But before we look at what happened in 1660, there was a strange event that preceded it a year earlier. In 1659, the home of a local man named William Harrison was broken into during the day while he and his family were at church. During this incident, a sum of money was lost.

Just a few weeks later, Harrison’s servant, John Perry, claimed to have heard cries for help from the garden. According to his account, he saw two white men carrying swords. However, Hammersmith security at that time said there was no robbery in 1659.
